Our annual campus food drive is a competitive event called "Pursuit of the Golden Can.” Working with Kentucky Harvest Southeast, an organization dedicated to combating hunger, several area colleges compete to collect the most nonparishable food items, which are donated to their respective local food pantries. The winning institution takes home the traveling "Golden Can" trophy for the year. Last fall, Union College, University of the Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky University and Somerset Community College competed and collected 16,415 pounds of food, 4,795 of which came from Union, the winning institution.
"Pursuit of the Golden Can" is now underway. The contest ends Nov. 15.
