Clean Up the Cumberland River

In an effort to promote environmental education in the Appalachian region, the Union College Redbud Festival of Appalachian Culture will host, Clean Up the Cumberland River, on April 12th, 2014, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (EST). Students will meet at the Frances Patridge Campus Center. This hands-on learning experience, co-organized by the Union College Spiritual Life Program and Outdoors Program, will provide students the opportunity to engage in conservation efforts by safely removing debris from the Cumberland River and surrounding areas. In addition, Andy Messer, Assistant Professor of Recreation Management, will discuss with students the importance of river and stream preservation efforts, highlighting the ecological AND economic significance of such projects to Appalachian communities.
