Union College is expanding its academic offerings to students throughout the region; and the world. Dr. David Johns, Vice President for Academic Affairs, announced the establishment of the Division of Graduate and Online Studies. The academic division will work to expand graduate offerings to students while introducing a multitude of online programs.
Union College introduced recently the Bonner Leader Program, which will offer students more than $10,000 annually in renewable individual scholarship aid packages. The Bonner Leader Program begins this fall for the 2015-16 academic year.
For the second time in his four-year career at Union College, senior Zach Dillman has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Team, earning a spot on the Second Team.
Union College released this week its list of Dean’s List students and Presidential Laureate students for spring 2015. Twenty-five students were honored as Presidential Laureates for spring 2015, while 95 undergraduates made the spring 2015 Dean's List.
Union College men's golfer Simon Taylor (SR/Eckenhaid, Bayern, Germany) has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District men's at-large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Taylor earned a spot on the First Team in the College Division in District Two.
Union College is offering free tuition for its most dedicated students. At her inauguration, Dr. Marcia Hawkins challenged the incoming students to excel academically and civically with the offer of free tuition. Union College will honor the 2015 graduating class with two events this week: a Baccalaureate service on Friday, May 8, and a Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9. The featured speaker during Commencement will be Albert “Hap” Cawood, a native Kentuckian and Union alum known for his book, The Miler.

That, at least, is what a new Union College Spirit Rock tips the scales at. The Union College Department of Athletics named their 2014-15 Athletes of the Year at the College's Co-Curricular awards on Monday evening, and Alex Smith of the men's soccer team, along with Paige Moore of the volleyball squad nabbed Male and Female Athlete of the Year honors, respectively.
The Knox County Farmers’ Market Board of Directors has announced the market will open for the season on May 7. In addition, a new location for the market has been announced for the 2015 season. Union College is a primary partner in the Farmers’ Market as well as other agricultural-based programs being developed in the community.
Union College recognized 31 students for outstanding academic achievement at its annual Honors Day Convocation ceremony on Thursday. The awards acknowledge high scholastic averages by class year and discipline, including literature, computer programming, business, accounting, history, psychology, the sciences and others.
Union College has been ranked as having one of the top online substance abuse counseling programs in the nation by bestcolleges.com. In a report released this month, Best Colleges has Union listed as the sixth ranked college in the nation for its online graduate program in substance abuse counseling.
